CommunicationFIRST is the only nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the civil rights of the more than 5 million children and adults in the United States who, due to disability or other condition, cannot rely on speech alone to be heard and understood.

Their mission is to protect and advance the rights, autonomy, opportunity, and dignity of people with speech-related disabilities through public engagement, policy and practice reform, and systemic advocacy.


Autism Canada

Autism Canada is the only Canadian autism advocacy organization with a national perspective on the issues currently facing those with ASD, their families and other stakeholders. 


Autism Key

Autism Key is run by parents, for parents of individuals with autism spectrum disorders. The site was founded in 2005 to offer news, resources and support to the autism and special needs communities.

Since its founding, Autism Key has equipped tens-of-thousands of families with vital information and resources, and continues to offer unique content for the autism community. This includes news, multi-media information, discussion boards from visitors and commentary from a variety of viewpoints and perspectives.


AANE – Asperger/Autism Network

The Asperger/Autism Network (AANE) helps people with Asperger’s or similar autism spectrum and neurodiverse profiles build meaningful, connected lives.  They provide individuals, families, and professionals with information, education, community, support, and advocacy — all in an inclusive atmosphere of validation and respect.


Council of Parent Attorneys & Advocates (COPAA)

The Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, Inc. (COPAA) is an independent, nonprofit, §501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization of attorneys, advocates, parents and related professionals.

COPAA members work to protect the legal and civil rights of and secure excellence in education on behalf of tens of thousands of students with disabilities and their families each year at the national, state and local levels.

COPAA is committed to increasing the quality and quantity of special education advocates and attorneys, and creating a level playing field to ensure children with disabilities receive the high-quality education to which all children are entitled.



Insurance Resoucres

Their mission is to assist families with children with autism spectrum disorders (and later other mental health conditions) to obtain medically necessary treatments through their health plans, so that they can ultimately reach their full potential. They do this by fielding questions from the public, offering seminars to the public, educating legislators and regulators on laws that will protect these populations, and providing direct services to assist families with obtaining single case agreements, writing appeals and requesting regulatory intervention. They also help providers and the facilities that serve them by offering pre and ongoing authorizations, appeal writing, billing (for facilities), collecting unpaid claims, and other services, as needed.


Washington Autism Alliance & Advocacy

Washington State

WAAA is the nation’s only legal advocate for people with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities to access healthcare and education regardless of ability to pay.

Today they provide Insurance, Family Resource and Education Navigation to an average of 3,000 member families a year, in every County in Washington. They continue to lobby for social change and improved public policies on behalf of children and adults with autism.
